JOSHUA TREE
COUNTRY: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES
Joshua Tree National Park has long been a popular weekend destination for creative and nature-loving Angelenos, but in recent years has been attracting visitors from far and wide. There’s a mystical allure about its diverse desert terrain that is rather celestial in feeling. Surrounding the park, a set of creatives that have put down roots in Pioneertown and Twentynine Palms help to nourish visitors and spread the spirit of conscious connection. From wild rock formations to niche gift shops and funky saloons, Joshua Tree will surely bring out the free spirit within.
SPIRIT OF THE DESERT
01/ FIELD GUIDE
Two popular hikes, Skull Rock Nature Trail and Wonderland of Rocks will not disappoint with impressive and diverse boulders, pebbles, stones, and otherworldly plant life. Keys View, an expansive lookout point over Coachella Valley is also worthwhile and on some days visibility stretches as far as the Salton Sea and Palm Springs. If camping is not for you, try laying your head at one of the regions deign-centric home rentals. We love Villa Kuro and a selection of properties from Homestead Modern.
02/ MAGNETIC JOURNEY
Founder George Van Tassel, ufologist and Venusian contactee built the Integratron by instruction on messages received from the cosmos. Integratron was constructed at coordinates where there is a significant spike in the earth's magnetic field which can be read by Magnetometers. The domed tabernacle structure, with a warm wooden interior, enhances sounds and vibrations within its chamber. We recommend booking a sound bath experience for a cosmic meditation induced by crystal Tibetan singing bowls.
03/ LIFE ON SET
North of the park, Pioneertown was originally constructed as a movie set in the mid 1940s for Old Western films. In the tiny town you’ll find quirky shops and most notably Pappy and Harriet’s, an unassuming saloon serving great barbeque and enlisting a legendary string of musical acts from Lorde and Lizzo to Paul Mccartney. For a more relaxed evening, head to Smith’s Ranch Drive-in to set up a picnic and catch a film under the stars.
